What are Trichoderma fungi?

Trichoderma is one of the most frequently selected microorganisms used in microbial preparations. This is due to its versatile use in various areas such as agriculture, horticulture and gardening.

Trichoderma is a naturally occurring fungus in the soil, known for its high effectiveness in fighting for space and food against pathogens, leading to the inhibition of their growth. This fungus is located in the zone closest to the roots, so it is in direct contact with the plants, allowing better access to nutrients, protection from pathogens, promotion of growth and many other beneficial aspects for the plants.

The benefits of using the fungi Trichoderma sp.

Increased bioavailability of nutrients

Trichoderma influences the decomposition of organic matter in the soil which contributes to the release of plant-available forms of elements.

Roots in the presence of Trichoderma fungi are able to form more branches, are thicker and are able to take up more water and nutrients.

With a better developed root system and increased bioavailability of nutrients, plants are able to take up more nutrients, which affects their yield.

Thanks to the phytohormones produced, Trichoderma makes the plant grow faster and better.

Trichoderma fungi, by stimulating the natural immune mechanism of plants and producing natural antibiotics, protect the plant from infection.

Trichoderma is known for its effective competition with infectious pathogens, for space and food, which limits their growth. In addition, these fungi produce lytic enzymes that destroy pathogens.

The formulation contains only naturally occurring, effective strains of Trichoderma fungi.

Trichoderma fungi added to various peat substrates can significantly promote the growth of bed plants! 🌼

🔬 Studies have shown:

⬆️ ⁠Velvets in peat-gravel compost: T. harzianum and T. viride strains (1% w/v) increased fresh shoot weight to 40%, dry weight to 52% and flower number to 40%.

⬆️ ⁠Petunias in peat-sand compost: The T. harzianum strain (0.1% w/v) increased fresh shoot weight by 82%, dry weight by 87%, and flower and bud number increased by up to 227%.

⬆️ Verbenes in Fisons M2 compost: T. harzianum and T. viride strains (0.3-1% w/v) increased flower number, flower weight, fresh and dry weight of shoots, with WT (1% w/v) improving all these parameters.

🌸 Conclusion: The addition of Trichoderma increases flowering and shoot growth of petunia, velvetleaf and verbena under different growing conditions.

Trichoderma is a beneficial soil fungus that promotes plant growth and defence. In studies, Trichoderma harzianum has been shown to effectively control grey mould (Botrytis cinerea) by rapidly occupying living space and nutrients.

🔬 Key research findings:

➡️ ⁠62.05% inhibition of grey mould growth on day 6 of agarose plate culture.

➡️ 69.44% reduction of grey mould in tomato crop.

➡️ Reduction of hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde concentrations in leaves.

➡️ Increased expression of genes related to secondary metabolism and defence.

➡️ Increased concentration of flavonoids, phenols and lignin in tomato leaves.

➡️ Reduced stomatal closure, increased photosynthesis and RuBisCO and FBPase enzyme activity.

🌿 Summary: Trichoderma increases tomato resistance to grey mould by stimulating redox potential, secreting secondary metabolites and improving the function of the stomatal apparatus.
